Silicon Valley Reads: Film Screening of Wartorn 1861-2010, followed by a Veterans’ Panel Discussion
Silicon Valley Reads 2013 focuses on the “invisible wounds of war.” The HBO documentary, Wartorn 1861-2010, chronicles the lingering effects of combat stress and post-traumatic stress on military personnel and their families throughout American history, from the Civil War through the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The film shares the personal stories of soldiers through letters, journals, photos and combat footage, and first-person interviews of veterans of WWII, the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Following the 67-minute film, speakers from area veterans’ groups, including the United Veterans Council and Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, will comment on the film, clarify any points regarding veterans, and answer questions.
