Santa Clara City Library offers a variety of programs for a variety of ages. Weekly storytime programs are offered throughout the year for babies, one-year-olds, toddlers, preschoolers, and families. Occasionally, educational or entertainment programs are offered for specific ages.
While some programs are open to all ages such as Family Storytime, others are appropriate for specific ages. Age limits are set due to a variety of reasons. Program content and maturity level, mode of presentation, performer stipulation, or room capacity may all be reasons for setting age limits on programs. Library staff weigh all of these considerations and also strive to present the most enjoyable program for the most number of children and/or parents. Without age limits, many programs at the library would not be offered at all.
For preschool and younger, or all ages programs, parent participation is expected and younger siblings are allowed. For school-aged programs, younger siblings are not allowed, and parents may be asked to remain outside the program room during the program. This is especially true during summertime programs.
While we recognize that there may be extenuating circumstances for some people, making a different decision about age limits can be complicated and often a last minute decision. Parents are strongly discouraged from expecting exceptions to be made for their child(ren).
Age limits will be printed on all publicity regarding any children's event. It will be posted on the library's web calendar as well as the in-house print calendar, flyers, posters, and any other publicity related to the event.
In the interest of fairness to all, age limits are enforced. Please make yourself aware of age limits before you attend a program. We appreciate your cooperation.
