Santa Clara City Library Teen Writing Contest:

In celebration of Teen Read Week (October 18-24), the Library and the Santa Clara City Library Foundation and Friends are sponsoring a writing contest for grades 7-12.  The theme of the contest is Read Beyond Reality…Step Into Your Future.  Teens should imagine themselves at age thirty and write about what their lives are like. Essays may include things like where the teen lives and works, who their friends are and what goals they have for their future selves. The grand prize will be $100.00.  First, second and third place winners will also be chosen for grades 7-8 and 9-12. Winners will be notified. All writers and their families, friends and teachers are invited to a reception for the winners on Monday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Central Park Redwood Room.

Wed. Oct. 14, Last Day to turn in entries for Teen Read Week 2009 Essay Contest: Read Beyond Reality…Step Into Your Future. Submissions should be turned in to the Youth Services Desk at the Central Park Library. Entries must include attach an official entry form.

Mon. Oct. 19. Reception for Teen Read Week Essay Contest Winners. Winners will be announced. All writers and their families, friends and teachers are invited to a reception in the Central Park Redwood Room. Light refreshments will be served. Please call 408.615.2916 to R.S.V.P.

Summer Programs:
 

TeenRead is a summer reading program for grades 7-12. Teens register at the beginning of the summer and read five or more books through August to earn a $10.00 gift card from Borders. Sign ups available online or in person at the Youth Services Desk.

There are several other fun and interesting programs planned throughout the summer for teens. Previous programs have included scrapbooking, scavenger hunts, Board Game Day, henna handpainting, ventriloquism, acting and American Sign Language workshops, as well as Pizza and Karaoke Night.
