This service is supported by funding from the Foundation and Friends of Santa Clara City Library.
Digital Books are electronic versions of print books. They include downloadable audio books for listening and eBooks for on-screen reading. Both digital audio books and eBooks may be used on a variety of devices, such as PCs, laptops, and supported PDAs and MP3 players (iPod is not supported at this time). Most of the audio books may be copied onto CDs for use on portable devices or in the car. The Library offers digital audio books in the OverDrive Media Console™ format, and eBooks in Adobe® Reader® and Mobipocket Reader formats. To access digital books through the Califa Digital Book Download Center, you will need:

  •  a valid library card
  •  access to the Internet
  •  free software for the device on which you wish to use your digital books.

  • More information below...

Please note that digital books may be enjoyed on the supported device of your choice, but are not for use on the computers at Santa Clara City Library locations.

    Check Out Digital Books

    How it Works

  •  You will need to install free software (on non-Library devices only), available from the Califa Digital      Download Center.
  •  Check out items by choosing "Santa Clara City Library" from the drop-down list and entering your 14-      digit Santa Clara City Library card number.
  •  Up to 8 titles at a time may be checked out from your own computer or from most library computers.      However, digital books may not be downloaded to library computers.
  •  The loan period for most digital books is 3 weeks.
  •  You may place up to 10 titles on hold at a given time.
  •  Once the loan period has expired, the title is "returned" automatically to the Library. Although the digital      book file will remain on your machine, it no longer will be readable. You then may delete the file      manually from your machine if you choose.
  •  Only Adobe® eBooks may be returned prior to the due date.
