Parenting Program:  Fathers Matter, part 1 (adults only) Tuesday, 7:00 p.m.  Central Park Library Cedar Room.  How important is it for DAD to be involved in his children’s lives?  Recent research indicates that children benefit greatly when the relationship with their father or male role model is close and warm.  A nurturing relationship with a father or male role model helps children grow up feeling more comfortable and secure.  This 2 week course will remind you what an important difference you can make in a child’s life. Special Program for Parents, Educators, Caregivers:  (adults only) Thursday, 4:00-5:30 p.m.  Central Park Library Cedar Room.  Award-winning children’s musician, Mary Lee Sunseri, conducts a music workshop for those who work closely with children.  She will teach you songs, fingerplays, and other ways to enrich children’s lives with music.  Please register for this workshop at the Youth Services Desk, or call 615-2916.

This year’s Summer Reading Program “Catch the Reading Bug” begins today!  Sign-ups run through Friday, July 18. 

Special Kickoff Party Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. behind the Library in Central Park.  Face painting, crafts, crazy photographs, child ID kits, and special guest, musician Juan Sanchez (at 2:00 p.m.)!  A fun time for the whole family.  Please join us in celebrating the beginning of this year’s Summer Reading Program!

Health and Wellness Program: Healthy Cooking with Kids. (ages 3-10) Saturday, 10:3011:30 a.m.  On the side of the Central Park Library.  Start off the morning with a Pacific Coast Farmers Market Chef and learn ways to cook quick and healthy summer meals.

Santa Clara Model Aircraft Program (ages 8 through adult) Saturday, 3:00 p.m.  Central Park Library Redwood Room.  Paul Hasselbach of Santa Clara Model Aircraft Skypark will talk to children and adults about model aviation in the Santa Clara Valley.  The program will cover the history of model aviation, a slide show of different aircraft in action, and presenters speaking about their model planes.  No registration is required.

Family Movie: A BUG’S LIFE (Rated G) Monday, 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.  Central Park Library Redwood Room.  Recommended for ages 5 and older.  Space is limited.  Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.  Snacks may be brought into the program room.  Please bring a blanket to sit on if you are bringing food.  For more information, please contact the Youth Services desk at 615-2916.

School Age Program: Ralph Dean presents Back Yard Bugs! (1st through 6th Grades) Tuesday, 3:00 p.m.  Central Library Redwood Room.  Children will be transported into a bug-filled backyard where they will learn why a bumblebee shouldn’t be able to fly, what the sound of a cricket indicates, and why ladybugs have spots.  Space is limited.  Parents will be asked not to attend.  Children should be able to attend without a parent.   Please arrive early.  Latecomers will not be admitted. Family Program:  GREG FRISBEE  (ages 3 and older only—no exceptions!)  Wednesday, 7:00 p.m.  Central Park Library Redwood Room. Juggling! Mind reading! Extreme balancing! Audience participation! COMEDY! Space is limited.  Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.  You must get your hand stamped for entry.  We will stamp hands 30 minutes prior to the show in the Youth Services area.  Latecomers will not be admitted.  For more information, please contact the Youth Services desk at 615-2916.

Baby Lapsit (ages 0-12 months) Thursday, 10:30 a.m. Central Park Library Cedar Room. Learn songs, fingerplays, and stories that infants will sit up and listen to. Bring a blanket for you and your baby to sit on. Please do not bring older siblings to this program. Space is limited. Please arrive early to find adequate parking. Young 1s (ages 12-24 months only) Thursday, 10:30 a.m. Central Park Library Redwood Room. Songs, stories, and sensory experiences for 12-24 month olds and their parents. Agilent Hands-On Science (5th through 12th Grades) 2:00 p.m.  Central Park Library Cedar Room.  Learn principles of science through hands on activities.  Space is limited.  Sign up beginning 6/19 at the Youth Services Desk, or call 615-2916.

Preschool Storytime (ages 2-5) Friday, 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Central Park Library Redwood Room. Space is limited. Do not attend this program if your child is not between the ages of 3 and 5 years old. Younger or older siblings are allowed to attend as long as there is a child of the appropriate age. Health and Wellness Program: Kaiser Permanente Presents Live Theatre. (ages 3-10) Saturday, 10:3011:30 a.m.  Central Park Library Cedar Room. Families are invited to watch an awardwinning performance of Kaiser Permanente's Educational Theatre Program. It provides health information through the engaging medium of live theatre. Kids will love the show!

Family Movie:  BEE MOVIE (Rated G)  Monday, 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.  Central Park Library Redwood Room.  Recommended for ages 5 and older.  Barry, who has just graduated from bee college, is horrified to learn that he must pick his life-long job as a worker bee and will never get a day off (bees haven't taken vacation days in 27 million years).
