Public Computer Training: Internet/Catalog Basics. Thursday, 9:30—10:30 a.m. Central Park Library Technology Training Center. This class is for those with little or no Internet experience—however, some skill with a computer mouse is required. The instructor will demonstrate and provide hands-on instruction in using a browser to navigate the Internet and for finding materials in the Library’s catalog. (Occasionally this class is offered in Chinese.)

Public Computer Training: Using Google to search the Internet. Monday, 9:3011:30 a.m., Central Park Library Technology Training Center. Learn how to use the Internet and Internet resources for schoolwork and home use. The 2 hour class is friendly and paced to your speed. The instructor, Daniel M. Russell is a research scientist at Google where he works in the area of search quality, with a focus on understanding what makes Google users happy in their use of web searches. He studies how people do their searches, trying to understand the most common traps and pathways to successful searches. Students are encouraged to bring questions. Instruction will be hands-on.

Special Author Program: Lisa Lutz, The Curse of the Spellmans. Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., Central Park Library Cedar Room. West coast author Lisa Lutz's new novel, The Curse of the Spellmans, follows her funny irreverent 2007 debut, The Spellman Files. Izzy, zany licensed private investigator, works for the family detective business in SAn Francisco. Come hear Ms. Lutz talk about the antics and capers of this hilarious dysfunctional family of sleuths! Her lively story of suspicion, eavesdropping, and surprise should appeal to both teens and adults.

Genealogy Program: "Portuguese Heritage in Santa Clara County and California," Tuesday, 7:00-9:00 p.m., Central Park Library Cedar Room. Al Dutra is President of the Board of Directors of the Portuguese Historical Museum (http://www.portuguesemuseum.org) located in San Jose's Kelley Park. He is also involved with 'Portuguese Heritage Publications of California'. He will discuss the heritage of the Portuguese in Santa Clara County. Special Program: SBA: Your Small Business Resource - a Small Business Administration Workshop. Wednesday 5 p.m. - 7 p.m., Central Park Library Redwood Room. Join this free, 2-hour workshop where small business owners and prospective small business entrepreneurs will learn how the programs of the U.S. Small Business Adminstration (SBA) can help them start, manage, and grow their companies. Experts from SBA and its resource partners will provide practical information on SBA's three main program areas:
- management training and counseling
- access to financing
- access to federal government contracting opportunities
Program benefits, eligibility requirements, and application procedures also will be covered.

Special Program: NASA Space Missions: Mars Phoenix and Mercury Messenger. Wed., June 4, 2008. NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador Eric Norris returns with another multi-media presentation on recent space missions. The Mars Phoenix Mission will be sniffing the Martian arctic soils for chemistry that could support life; the Mercury Messenger Mission is the first spacecraft to visit Mercury since Mariner 10.
