Volunteer Opportunties
     
 

We invite members of the public to be part of the Santa Clara City Library community by becoming a library volunteer.

Currently available volunteer positions are:

     
 
  • Literacy Tutor
    Teach an adult to read. You'll be amazed at what you learn! Read Santa Clara needs literacy tutors. Volunteer tutors work with adult learners to improve their reading, writing and math skills. No teaching experience needed! Orientation and 12.5 hours of tutor training provided. Please contact Read Santa Clara at (408) 615-2956 or email readsantaclara@santaclaraca.gov. Volunteers must make a time commitment of two hours per week for six months. The literacy program will host the following orientations for volunteers at the Mission Library:

    Tuesday, April 8, 2008, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
    Tuesday, April 22, 2008, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
    Saturday, August 16, 2008, 9:30-11:00 a.m.
    Tuesday, September 9, 2008, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
    Thursday, September 25, 2008, 6:30-8:00 p.m.

  • Homebound Volunteer
    Provide a vital link to library services by delivering books and other library materials to our homebound patrons or residents of a retirement or healthcare facility. Qualifications: Valid California Driver’s License; must be able to lift up to 3 lbs.; good listening skills; patient; dependable. A monthly commitment of three to four hours per month is requested.
  • Genealogy Room Consultant
    Genealogy volunteers help researchers locate materials they need in the library's Genealogy Room collection. Volunteers are scheduled in the Genealogy Room daily from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and Monday through Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A commitment of two hour to eight hours per month is requested.
